11+1 Version 2 — Mass-Psychology Topology
11+1 Version 2 — Mass-Psychology Topology
BETA — editorial synthesis. Topology under refinement. Count frozen provisionally. Claims unfrozen.
This page records a stabilized coordinate system for John Kuhles’s numbered mass-psychology list. It is not a proof that every named mechanism is established, not a new cluster count, and not the interactive matrix in G42.
The cluster count can stabilize without the claims becoming untouchable.
Freeze the coordinates provisionally. Do not freeze corrigibility. If “11+1” later protects itself from a better correction, it has become one of the frames it was built to inspect.
Provenance
| Layer | What it is | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Items 001–107 | The list from which the original 11+1 emerged. Item 107 is tribalism versus beyond tribalism: Allow Constructive Controversy Mode. | Not a completed causal model. |
| June 2026 cluster synthesis | Grok 4.3 grouped that earlier list into twelve relational fields. John then stated the split as 11 distortion clusters + 1 correspondence-restoring field. His working label for the eleven is “clusterf*cks.” This page uses “distortion clusters” so the joke does not do the classification. | Not a digestion of items 108–140. Those items were not yet in the object. |
| Items 108–140 | Version 2 refinements: mechanisms, transitions, interfaces, and three corrective operators. | Not retroactive parents of the June topology. |
| This page | 29 September 2026 stabilization after independent readings by Grok 4.6 and GPT-5.6 Sol, then a combined register. Editorial implementation: Grok 4.6. | Not a vote, and not validation by agreement. |
Version 1 stays historically intact. Version 2 modifies it. Rebuilding the eleven from all 140 would erase that sequence.
This page is also distinct from the 12-part topological emergence record, from 27 + 12, and from the 10+1. Shared numbers are not shared objects.
A named institution, network, or model inside a cluster is not thereby a room of cartoon villains. The working claim is architectural: incentives, information asymmetry, and weak corrigibility can reproduce a pattern without most participants owning it. Malice remains a separate claim and needs its own evidence.
Two axes
Topological home and evidentiary status are independent.
A concept can have an obvious place in the map while its strongest causal or intentional wording remains unestablished. Parking a hypothesis inside a cluster does not promote it into a load-bearing wall.
Claim type on the register below is about the wording of that numbered item, not about whether a neighboring literature exists.
The 11+1 after Version 2
The eleven are attractors. They also loop. A left-to-right story is a view through the field, not a replacement for the field.
| # | Attractor | Version 2 change |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Consensus enforcement → internalized self-suppression | External pressure → anticipated cost → preference falsification (109) → self-censorship (108) → binary compression. 110 is mainly Cluster 7, with an edge into 9. |
| 2 | Weaponized perception and cognitive warfare | Reflexive control (134) is a conceptual hinge: structure the field so the target selects the preferred move. Present-tense applications stay case by case. Do not silently widen this cluster into every cross-domain control story. |
| 3 | Institutional asymmetry and capture | Administrative, legal, and jurisdictional tools (118–120) live here. |
| 4 | Fear, moral panic, and crisis exploitation | Intermittent reinforcement, anomie exploitation, and shock reuse thicken it. They do not prove one crisis manager. |
| 5 | Scaled conformity and obedience | Mostly unchanged. It receives the compliance bridge from Cluster 3. It is not rewritten into that bridge. |
| 6 | Narrative control as phased information ecology | Before the event, during competition, distribution, then population consequence. Individual items may keep a second home. |
| 7 | Bias and heuristic traps | Includes excessive binary framing (110) and temporal anchoring (132). These can fire with no institution in the room. |
| 8 | Tech-mediated and synthetic-epistemic control | One coupled cluster, two layers. Not a twelfth distortion cluster. |
| 9 | Identity, virtue, and moral capture | Confirmshaming (123) and outgroup homogeneity (127). |
| 10 | Long-wave cultural drift | Manufactured cynicism (125) was a hole. Cynicism can also be earned. “Manufactured” is the load-bearing word. |
| 11 | Competing-risk suppression and vindication lag | Diagnostic output of interactions among 1–10. Not another peer generator, and not a bin for every later suppression word. |
| +1 | Correspondence-restoring field | Internal anatomy: epistemic vigilance (138) → omnidirectional grounding (139) → cognitive sovereignty (140), with ACCM, outnuancing, C1 before C2, the 10+1, and correction metabolism. |
Cluster 8 stays one cluster
- 8a — platform, surveillance, and reach mediation. Shadow-demotion (131) lives here, with a secondary edge into Cluster 6.
- 8b — generative, synthetic-epistemic mediation. Items 112–117. This is not “more cameras.” It is technology participating in how a person or system decides what counts as known.
Splitting 8 into two of the eleven would make a neater org chart and a worse topology. Reach control and fluent mediation now run together.
111 is an attack edge, not the last bead of Cluster 1
108–110 can feed 111. External systems can also produce 111 without that inner sequence.
distortion clusters 1–10
↓ pressure
111 obstructing omnidirectional, mutual, high-signal sense-making
↓ attack edge
+1 vigilance → grounding → sovereignty
Putting 111 inside Cluster 1 hides the thing being sabotaged. Putting 138–140 inside the eleven treats the immune functions as another disease.
Compliance is a bridge, not Cluster 13
institutional asymmetry (3)
→ administrative / legal machinery (118–120)
→ semantic redefinition (121)
→ selective punishment and chilling (122)
→ anticipatory conformity (5)
→ self-regulation (108–109)
Item 128, strategic narrative flooding, is also a reason not to mint clusters 12, 13, or 14. An analysis of chaff can become chaff.
One reading path, not the official object
narrative environment (6)
→ exploits biases (7)
→ reinforced by institutional asymmetry (3)
→ chilling and conformity (1 / 5)
→ preference falsification and self-censorship (1)
→ synthetic-epistemic mediation (8b)
→ new material returns to the narrative environment (6)
Cluster 11 is where a competing risk assessment is dropped and later vindicated, or not. The +1 is what can inspect that loop without installing a mandatory counter-frame. AI mediation is not only a late stage. It can enter earlier.
Function vocabulary
Deliberately small:
generator · amplifier · bridge · converter · internalizer · output · attack-edge · corrective operator
Converter is the one addition beyond the first combined register. Some mechanisms do not merely amplify or move a signal. They change its epistemic form.
- 112 — resemblance or probabilistic inference → categorical representation → later treatment as certainty.
- 117 — linguistic plausibility → a feeling of knowing without the work of verification.
- 121 — meaning A → drift or redefinition → a different operation still traveling under the same word. “Deliberate control” remains a separate proof.
Register of 108–140
Primary function is one. Secondary function, when real, is named in the note rather than allowed to create a second row.
| # | Item | Primary home | Secondary edge | Claim type | Function | Specimen / status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 108 | Self-censorship | 1 | 5 | Established mechanism | internalizer | Lab and field neighbor. Scale is the open part. |
| 109 | Preference falsification | 1 | 5 | Established mechanism | internalizer | Kuran. Clearer than “everyone agrees.” |
| 110 | Excessive binary framing | 7 | 9 | Established heuristic | amplifier | The bias is real. “Excessive” needs a specimen. |
| 111 | Obstructing omnidirectional sense-making | +1 edge | 1 | Project term | attack-edge | Names sabotage of the +1. Not only an inner state. |
| 112 | LLM “looks like” → certainty | 8b | 11 | Project operationalization | converter | MISSING SPECIMEN for this exact conversion. Classification and sycophancy research are neighbors, not the specimen. |
| 113 | Cognitive offloading | 8b | 7 | Research neighbor | internalizer | Offloading is studied. “Belief-formation disregard” is the stronger clause. |
| 114 | Epistemic rewiring | 8b | 2 | Hypothesis | generator | Home exists. “Completely attack” is not established by the name. Not load-bearing. |
| 115 | Cognitive Trojan Horse | 8b | 2 | Design-pattern hypothesis | amplifier | Fluent persona can lower vigilance. “Systematically disarms” needs cases. |
| 116 | Cognitive deskilling | 8b | 10 | Research neighbor | output | Atrophy is testable. It is not automatic in every use. |
| 117 | Epistemia | 8b | 7 | Named 2025 construct | converter | Quattrociocchi and colleagues: plausibility standing in for verification. |
| 118 | Administrative deformation | 3 | 11 | Mixed, intent-heavy | bridge | Laundering a low-signal attack into a high-status venue is a claim about events. |
| 119 | Lawfare | 3 | 11 | Named practice | bridge | The term is public. Each use still needs a case. |
| 120 | Jurisdictional arbitrage | 3 | — | Mixed | bridge | Forum-shopping is real. “Global elites” is extra actor language. |
| 121 | Semantic drift control | 6 | 2 | Mixed | converter | Word-shift is observable. Deliberate control is a separate proof. |
| 122 | Chilling-effect optimization | 1 and 3 | 5 | Established effect plus design claim | amplifier | Chilling effect is established. MISSING SPECIMEN for the optimization claim. |
| 123 | Confirmshaming | 9 | 5 | Named dark pattern | amplifier | Interface specimens are easy. Mass scale is harder. |
| 124 | Intermittent reinforcement | 4 and 8 | 5 | Established principle, applied | amplifier | Conditioning is real. A platform trauma-bond needs cases. |
| 125 | Manufactured cynicism | 10 | 6 | Mixed | output | Cynicism can be earned. “Manufactured” carries the claim. |
| 126 | Anomie exploitation | 4 | 10 | Mixed | amplifier | Anomie is classical. Exploitation is the added act. |
| 127 | Outgroup homogeneity | 9 | 6 | Established mechanism | amplifier | Social-psychology staple. Total danger is the weaponized use. |
| 128 | Strategic narrative flooding | 6 | 2 | Mixed | amplifier | Also a self-test for list-making, including this list. |
| 129 | Prebunking | 6 | 2 | Established method plus use-claim | amplifier | Inoculation research exists. “Against an upcoming true disclosure” is a specific plot. |
| 130 | Controlled dissidence | 2 | 6 | Recurring hypothesis | amplifier | Historical lookalikes exist. Each alleged valve needs a source trail. |
| 131 | Algorithmic shadow-demotion | 8a | 6 | Documented practice | amplifier | Reach control is attested in platform settings. A bounded project specimen is still MISSING SPECIMEN. |
| 132 | Temporal anchoring fallacy | 7 | 6 | Established heuristic plus extra | amplifier | Anchoring is real. “Often fabricated first story” is extra. |
| 133 | Neuro-capitalism | 8a | 2 | Emerging hypothesis | generator | Biometric and affective markets exist. A completed control stack does not follow. Not load-bearing. |
| 134 | Reflexive control | 2 | 6 | Named doctrine | generator | Doctrine name is real. Present-tense application is case by case. |
| 135 | Narrative-driven fiat collapse | 3 and 4 | — | Hypothesis | generator | Needs a bounded financial specimen. Not load-bearing. |
| 136 | Hybrid kinetic-cognitive desensitization | 4 | 2 | Hypothesis | amplifier | Possible pattern. Not an established law. Not load-bearing. |
| 137 | Shock-doctrine re-engineering | 4 | 3 | Contested thesis, reused | amplifier | Klein’s frame is public and disputed. “Re-engineering” is a sequel claim. |
| 138 | Epistemic vigilance | +1 | 8b | Research neighbor | corrective operator | Filtering of source, incentive, and coherence. Here it is an operator, not a mood. |
| 139 | Omnidirectional grounding | +1 | 7 and 9 | Project term | corrective operator | Succeeds only if binary splits are actually bypassed. |
| 140 | Cognitive sovereignty | +1 | 8b | Project term, politically adjacent | corrective operator | Intended state of the +1. Not a trophy word. |
What the 33 actually are
Primary functions:
| Function | Items | Count |
|---|---|---|
| amplifier | 110, 115, 122–124, 126–132, 136, 137 | 14 |
| internalizer | 108, 109, 113 | 3 |
| bridge | 118–120 | 3 |
| converter | 112, 117, 121 | 3 |
| output | 116, 125 | 2 |
| attack-edge | 111 | 1 |
| corrective operator | 138–140 | 3 |
| generator, named doctrine | 134 | 1 |
| generator, hypothesis, not load-bearing | 114, 133, 135 | 3 |
The additions are disproportionately amplifiers, bridges, internalizers, and converters. Genuine generators stay scarce. That is why 33 items can raise the resolution of the 11+1 without justifying another cluster. It is not “33 new discoveries,” and it is not a 31 percent larger landscape.
The first 107 already contained processes: truncated views generating flawed perspectives, confirmation-bias loops, the spiral of silence, manufactured consent. The later 33 raise the density of named joints. They do not invent process.
Next empirical move
Three bounded specimens, three transmission surfaces:
| Item | Surface | If unsupported |
|---|---|---|
| 112 | representation → behavior | leave MISSING SPECIMEN |
| 122 | enforcement → self-regulation | leave MISSING SPECIMEN |
| 131 | distribution → visibility | leave MISSING SPECIMEN |
Do not complete the architecture rhetorically.
What would change this page
- A specimen that earns 114, 133, 135, or 136 a load-bearing role.
- Evidence that 8a and 8b no longer operate as one coupled cluster.
- A better account of 111 that still keeps it as sabotage of the +1.
- A showing that Cluster 11 is a generator rather than a diagnostic output.
- John rejecting the version split, the frozen count, or a placement on the register.
- A later correction that the causal overlay has been treated as the object. That would be a failure of this page, not a discovery.
